Pope Francis will launch the “Nuns Healing Hearts” campaign in honor of the tenth anniversary of Talitha Kum, the international network of women religious against human trafficking.
The Holy Father will do so at the conclusion of the 21st General Assembly of the UISG (International Union of Superiors General), which is to take place in Rome, May 6-10, on the theme: ‘Sowers of Prophetic Hope,’ on its final day, May 10, when receiving the superiors general in private audience.
‘Nuns Healing Hearts’ is sponsored by the Galileo Foundation, in collaboration with UISG and the Vatican’s Migrants & Refugees Section.
Today, in the Holy See Press Office, there was a meeting point to discuss the gathering.
The meeting’s theme ‘Sowers of Prophetic Hope,’ is expected to focus on how women religious can be signs of hope in the midst of the world’s conflicts and war, especially for the suffering women and children, reminded Sister Carmen Sammut, MSOLA, superior general of the Missionaries of Our Lady of Africa and UISG president. The Superior General was speaking today, May 2, at the meeting point.
Consisting of 1,900 members from more than 100 countries, the UISG represents 450,000 women religious throughout the world.
From 80 different nations, some 850 superiors general will participate in the assembly, along with around 40 invited guests including presenters, representatives of continental conferences of men and women religious and Vatican dicasteries, and others who lead organizations that partner with the UISG.
Themes such as interculturation, the future vision of religious life, the integrity of creation and interreligious dialogue are expected to be considered.
