Bishop David William Antonio of Ilagan is on quarantine after a test taken Nov. 9 indicated he had tested positive for Covid-19, but is asymptomatic, reported CBCP News.

He will remain quarantined until a subsequent test is negative.

The diocese made the announcement Nov. 12 following confirmation from swab and laboratory results.

“Bishop William is by far asymptomatic and now undergoing mandatory quarantine,” said Fr. Ric-Zeus Angobung, the diocese’s chancellor.

The 56-year-old bishop, he said, underwent coronavirus testing on Monday as a requirement for travel permit.

“We pray for the fast recovery of Bishop William and all those who are afflicted by the pandemic,” he said.

The St. Michael the Archangel Cathedral, the diocesan chancery, and the bishop’s residence in Gamu, Isabela have also been closed until further notice.

The diocese advised those who had close contact with the prelate the past few days to observe precautionary measures.

Antonio, who is also the administrator of the Apostolic Vicariate of San Jose in Occidental Mindoro province, is the sixth Filipino bishop to contract coronavirus.
