(ZENIT News / Vatican City, 27.06.2023).- Pope Francis’ Council of Cardinals met on June 26-27 in Vatican City. Taking part, in addition to the Holy Father, were all the Cardinals that constitute it as well as the Council’s Secretary.

During the session, with the collaboration of Cardinal Gianfranco Ghirlanda, the first steps were taken to reflect on how to put into practice the spirit, the principles and the criteria oof the Apostolic Constitution Praedicate Evangelium in the diocesan curias.

The subject of synodality, with reference to the Synod underway, was the object of debate, with an updating of the steps taken over the last months offered by Cardinal Mario Grech, in view of the October Assembly.

Cardinal O’Malley informed on the recent Plenary Session of the Commission for the Protection of Minors, held in May, and on the Commission’s work to update the regulations and practices throughout the Church, so that the mechanisms for the protection of minors are effective in all the dioceses.

The current conflict in Ukraine was also an object of reflection. The Council’s next session will take place in December of this year.
