(ZENIT News / Verona, 11.26.2023).- The Pope’s pastoral travel agenda for 2024 continues to solidify. Bishop Domenico Pompili of Verona made public the Pope’s upcoming visit to the northern Italian city on May 18, 2024, to participate in a peace rally alongside a conglomerate of peace associations and movements.

“The Pope is coming to this land evangelized by St. Zeno, and next year marks the 1650th anniversary of his death. The Pope encounters this Church, defined by himself as a crossroads of peoples,” added Bishop Pompili.

The announcement by the Bishop of Verona took place within the context of the 13th Festival of the Social Doctrine of the Church, held from November 24 to 26, 2023, which included a message from the Holy Father to the participants.

The last Pope to visit Verona was Benedict XVI on October 19, 2006.
