Pope to Venerate Relics After Beatification Mass

VATICAN CITY, OCT. 6, 2005 (Zenit.org).- Cardinal Clemens August von Galen, a bishop of Muenster who spoke out against Nazi persecution of the Jews, will be beatified this Sunday in St. Peter’s Basilica.

Cardinal José Saraiva Martins, prefect of the Congregation for Sainthood Causes, will preside at the beatification Mass for Cardinal von Galen (1878-1946).

At the end of the ceremony, Benedict XVI will arrive in the basilica in order to venerate the relics of the new blessed, greet those present and impart his apostolic blessing, said a note from the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff.
