(ZENIT News / Faisalabad, 06.26.2023).- Faisalabad witnessed a joyous occasion last week as Cardinal Joseph Coutts, accompanied by Monsignor Indrias Rehmat, the bishop of the Faisalabad diocese, inaugurated the newly built Catholic Church of St. Anthony in the Okara district, southeast of Lahore. The grand ceremony attracted thousands of faithful, along with priests and nuns, who joined in the blessing of the magnificent structure through prayers and hymns.
The foundation stone for the church was laid in June 2007 by the parish priest at that time, Father James Archangelus, and Cardinal Coutts, who served as the bishop of Faisalabad back then. The construction of the church was successfully completed under the guidance and support of Monsignor Rehmat.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with a solemn Mass, where children from Catholic schools across the diocese actively participated by offering symbolic gifts and singing religious hymns. The local community rejoiced and danced to the rhythm of drums while marveling at the church’s beauty. Standing proudly between its two main pillars, the church features a statue of St. Anthony. The enthusiasm of the faithful was such that the space in front of the building was brimming with devotees.
Bishop Indrias Rehmat expressed his gratitude, saying, «Today is a day of thanksgiving to God for granting us the courage and resources to complete His house, just as David and Samuel did with the Temple. We also celebrate the feast of St. Anthony, who is not only the patron saint of this parish but also of this town. Known as the saint of miracles, let us pray to him for healing and abundant blessings in our lives. Together, let us work for the development of this parish and extend invitations to more people to join us in God’s house. I urge you to become beacons of light for others through your actions and the spirit of your church. I am immensely grateful to all those who have supported us, especially those who have provided financial assistance for the construction of this church. Let us continue working for His glory and happiness.»
Cardinal Joseph Coutts also expressed his appreciation for Father James Archangelus, stating, «I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Father James Archangelus, who laid the foundation stone with me years ago and wholeheartedly dedicated himself to the construction and embellishment of this church. Today, we witness the culmination of his efforts, and I am truly delighted to be among all of you here, in this church that took many years to complete. I implore you to follow in the footsteps of St. Anthony, to help the poor, and to bring happiness and joy into their lives, just as he did. This church serves as a reminder that we must remain connected to God and the Holy Spirit, always seeking their abundant blessings for all. This is the best way to stay united and support one another, assured that our God will bless us abundantly as we work for His happiness and the joy of His people on Earth.»
