Was really glad to see the church promote this. I have been borderline diabetic for a number of years but now I am in type II and on Rx for treatment.
In the United States, this diabetes cases have doubled in recent year. Our economy, low wages and high food/heating costs added to medical expenses make fighting diabetes even harder.
Sadly some of our churches do not see the over all expense from this and other chronic disorders as draining bank accounts enough to help some people who really need the extra groceries for the last week of the month to get by.
It would be a great ministry of the church to promote helping our neighbors in need.
Our church even did a community garden to help feed those needing help. A one-acre garden provided on a bit of help in the long run since the need was overwhelming!
If all our churches did this in the United States we could make a huge impact on the health of our people and show Catholic compassion in action!
