Jorge Hernández Mollar, a Euro-parliamentarian of the European Popular Party and the president of the Parliament’s Citizens’ Liberties and Rights Commission, referred to a report presented last week by French deputy Fode Sylla. The report urged that homosexuals be allowed to marry each other and adopt children.
Hernández Mollar said the panel he represents is «opposed to sexual discrimination of any kind, but to move from there to equating homosexual marriages» with the marriage of a man and a woman and to authorizing «the adoption of children is to go well beyond what this means.»
He said the Sylla report, though approved 221-195, «is a pronouncement with political, not juridical value.»
