Philippines Needs 25,000 Priests, Says Bishop

Bishop Luis Antonio Tagle of Imus, chairman of the episcopate’s doctrinal commission, made that assessment Wednesday during the National Congress of the Clergy, according to Manila Bulletin Online.

Bishop Tagle said the country’s 8,700 priests are overworked.

The ideal ratio, according to him, should be one priest for at least 2,000 parishioners. The country now has only one priest for every 15,000 Catholics.
