New Archbishop for Bangalore

BANGALORE, India, JULY 22, 2004 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II appointed Bishop Bernard Moras of Belgaum, India, as metropolitan archbishop of Bangalore.

Bishop Moras, 62, succeeds Archbishop Ignatius Pinto, 79, whose resignation for reasons of age was accepted, the Vatican press office reported.

The archdiocese counts 361,000 Catholics in a total population of 20 million. It has 596 priests and 5,011 religious.
