Coadjutor Named for Winona

DETROIT, Michigan, OCT. 15, 2008 (Zenit.org).- An auxiliary bishop of Detroit has been named coadjutor of the Diocese of Winona, Minnesota, set to replace Bishop Bernard Harrington when he retires.

Auxiliary Bishop John Quinn was named the coadjutor of the Minnesota diocese, the Vatican announced today.

The Diocese of Winona has a population of 131,000 Catholics out of a total population of 570,000. It is served by 107 priests and 20 permanent deacons, as well as 414 religious.

John Quinn, 62, was born in Detroit in 1945. He was ordained a priest in 1972 and made auxiliary bishop of that diocese in 2003.
