Vatican to Participate in European Heritage Days

VATICAN CITY, SEPT. 12, 2011 (Zenit.org).- On the last Sunday of September, visitors to Rome will be able to access the Vatican Museums and all the catacombs free of charge, as part of the celebration of European Heritage Days.

In a statement released today by the Vatican, the Holy See confirmed that it will once again participate in the celebration of European Heritage Days, an initiative of the Council of Europe in which more than fifty countries on the continent participate.

The celebrations this year will take place on Sunday, Sept. 25. The theme is: “Life beyond Life.”

The Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Patrimony of the Church, the Vatican Museums and the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archaeology are all collaborating in the event.
