On Saturday overlooking the Jasna Gora monastery in Poland where the Black Madonna is kept, a 45-foot statue of Pope John Paul II was unveiled.

The 5-ton fiberglass monument is the world’s tallest statue of the Polish Pontiff.

Businessman Leszek Lyson funded the monument. Lyson believes his son was saved from drowning in 2010 through the intercession of John Paul II.

Archbishop Wacław Depo of Czestochowa blessed the statue during part of the unveiling ceremony.
