German Catholics Question the Leader of Their Episcopate and Receive a “Meaningless Answer”

Clara Steinbrecher, Directress of Maria 1.0, said the answer was insufficient and “notably meaningless.” It’s not understood why “the President of the German Episcopal Conference continues to be silent and continues to work with Dr Stetter-Karp”.

(ZENIT News / Munich, 15.08.2022).- In response to a statement of Mrs Irme Stetter-Karp, Co-President of the so-called “German Synodal Path” and leader of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK), with a position in favour of abortion in Germany, the Maria 1.0 Catholic Association wrote a letter to Bishop Georg Bätzing, the President of the German Episcopal Conference, to ask for a position.

As Steinbrecher’s letter received no answer, on Thursday, August 11 Maria 1.0 published an open letter stating clearly, among other things, that Mrs Stetter-Karp “abuses her posts as the highest lay representative of the Catholic Church and as Co-President of the Synodal Path to pursue a personal socio-political concern, namely: the alleged equality of women’s right to promote the right to self-determination and the right to the life of the unborn child, which is indignant for any devout Catholic!“ Previously they had questioned how it was possible that a ”person with such open anti-Catholic attitudes could hold a position of leadership.”

The open letter did receive an answer from the German Episcopal Conference in a missive dated August 15, signed by Frank Ronge, Secretary of the Synodal Path, and acknowledging receipt of the letter. Clara Steinbrecher, Directress of Maria 1.0, said the answer was insufficient and “notably meaningless.” It’s not understood why “the President of the German Episcopal Conference continues to be silent and continues to work with Dr Stetter- Karp in such an exposed place.”
