(ZENIT News / Washington, DC, 30.04.2024).- Planned Parenthood’s 2022-2023 Annual Report, entitled “Above and Beyond,” unleashed controversy as it reveals shocking data on the organization’s abortion practice. According to the Report, Planned Parenthood reached an atrocious record, having carried out 392,715 abortions during the period analyzed, which represents a significant increase over the previous year.
In addition to this alarming figure, the Report highlights that Planned Parenthood provided 552,721 “emergency anti-conception kits,” although these potential abortifacients are not counted in the total number of abortions. This practice has sparked criticisms, given the possibility that these kits can be used to interrupt the life of innocent babies.
Notwithstanding its predominant focus on abortion, Planned Parenthood has experienced a strong decrease in its services other than abortion. For example, the Report reveals that adoption references reached their lowest level in a decade, with just 1,721 references made. This tendency to a drop is also reflected in other services, such as detection and prevention examinations of cancer, women’s wellbeing examinations and prenatal services.
In regard to its financing, Planned Parenthood reached record levels in this area. During the period analyzed, the organization collected US$2 million, including a significant increase in the financing of contributors. This increase in public funds has sparked controversy at a time when many are questioning the use of government resources to finance controversial practices, such as abortion.
Moreover, the Report highlights Planned Parenthood’s efforts to facilitate access to abortion across state borders, especially in states with restrictions on this practice. The organization has coordinated efforts to transport thousands of pregnant women across state borders for the purpose of carrying out abortions, which has generated criticisms and concern on the part of pro-life groups.
In sum, Planned Parenthood’s Report reveals a worrying tendency to an increase in the number of abortions carried out, as well as a decrease in the services not related with abortion. As the organization continues receiving public funds and expanding its operations, it continues being the object of debate and controversy in the political and social realm.
