(ZENIT News / Rome, 12.04.2024).- At 15 years old, Josué Benjamín Figueroa has already demonstrated exceptional talent for sculpture, with eleven years of experience creating models that showcase his impressive artistic skill.

Josué recalls how his passion began. When he was just four years old, he wanted a toy that his mother couldn’t afford to buy. Upon learning this, his father brought home a piece of modeling clay and told him that with this material, he could shape anything he wanted. Inspired, young Josué crafted the figure of the toy he longed for. Since then, he has never stopped molding figures—starting with clay, then moving on to sculpting with other materials like resin reinforced with fiberglass, supported by internal metal structures.

Sculptures that beautify his city

One of his most recent works is a statue of Saint Augustine. This sculpture of the Church Doctor stands at the entrance of his hometown Guacara. But this is not Josué’s only creation: several of his sculptures adorn various points of the city. He feels proud to contribute his talent to the beautification of his community and country.

In addition to being a talented sculptor, Josué has become a role model for many children and young people. “I thank God for giving me the ability to create sculptures for my country and to inspire many young people. I hope that every child and young person who sees this sculpture feels motivated to be consistent, disciplined, and to work with love,” he said.

The support of his family, his greatest strength

Josué acknowledges that his achievements would not have been possible without the unconditional support of his family. “My team is my dad, my mom, and my sisters. It’s important to have a team to reach the goals you want,” he asserts. His Instagram posts showcase a united family, committed to supporting Josué and his two younger sisters.

Art with a purpose

Among the sculptures created by Josué are notable religious figures such as Saint Augustine, Saint Monica, the Virgin Mary, and Jesus. Recently, a three-meter-tall statue of Saint Anthony of Padua was installed in his city, further cementing his reputation as a promising young artist.

For Josué, art is not merely an aesthetic expression but also a vehicle for conveying values. In one of his sculptures, he depicts Jesus showing compassion to a beggar—a scene that symbolizes divine mercy and hope for him.

“I believe Jesus is like that,” he explains while pointing to his work. “In difficult circumstances, even when we don’t see Him, He is with us.”

With his talent, dedication, and faith, Josué Benjamín Figueroa is not only leaving an artistic mark but also a legacy of inspiration for future generations.
