Elected in representation of Asia was Cardinal Ivan Dias, archbishop of Bombay, India; of the Americas, Cardinal Claudio Hummes, archbishop of Sao Paulo; of Africa, Archbishop Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya of Kisangani, Congo; and of Europe, Archbishop Bruno Forte of Chieti-Vasto, Italy.

The commission also has a representative of the Eastern Churches, Cardinal Nasrallah Sfeir, patriarch of Antioch of the Maronites, Lebanon; of the Roman Curia, Cardinal Walter Kasper, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity; and of the superiors of religious congregations, Father Peter Hans Kolvenbach, general of the Society of Jesus.

The general assembly will vote on the draft of the message written by the commission.

The message will be an exhortation addressed to the people of God, but not include the synod’s specific proposals. The latter will be presented afterward by the Pope in an apostolic exhortation, which will take at least a year to write.
