Bishop-designate Siegel, 46, will be ordained bishop Jan. 19 at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet. As an auxiliary bishop, he will assist Bishop James Peter Sartain of Joliet.
Bishop Sartain, 57, said in a statement that he was grateful to Benedict XVI for the appointment: «I personally look forward to working in collaboration with him in the pastoral care of our people.»
Joseph Siegel was born in Joliet. He was ordained as a priest for the Diocese of Joliet in 1988.
During his seminary formation he completed degrees at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, the Pontifical Gregorian University, and the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas.
After ordination, Father Siegel completed his studies in systematic theology at the University of St. Mary of the Lake.
Since 2004, he has been pastor at Visitation Parish in Elmhurst.
He is a fourth degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher.
