Cardinal Christoph Schonborn has urged the faithful to realize how God’s divine mercy is inexhaustible and always present, and is not comparable to human mercy.
The Archbishop of Vienna underscored this during his speech opening a four-day European Apostolic Congress on Mercy, underway in Rome, reported Vatican Radio.
In his address, the Austrian cardinal stressed that mercy is always ‘here and now’ and is to be directed to all those who are suffering. He also reflected on the difference between human and divine mercy.
While lamenting how so many people «have hearts of stone» or else show «false mercy» when they wish to get rid of a problem, Cardinal Schonborn stressed that, on the contrary, God’s mercy and compassion are inexhaustible.
Tomorrow, participants at the Congress will take part with Pope Francis in a Prayer Vigil in St Peter’s Square for those who are devoted to the spirituality of Divine Mercy.
On Sunday, the participants will also attend the Divine Mercy Sunday Mass in the Square celebrated by the Holy Father.
