Priests Distribute Face Masks to Most Exposed People in Ivory Coast

First Thing Provided is Prayer

“In this struggle that turns out to be varied, everyone makes their own contribution. And the least we can bring is first of all the prayer we say every day for the whole humanity that is suffering, but in addition to prayer we have decided to offer free face masks to the poorest and most vulnerable populations”, says Fr. Emmanuel Wohi Nin, Secretary of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of the Ivory Coast and one of the initiators of this work of charity and solidarity towards the population, reported Fides News Agency.

Together with his deputy, Fr. Emile Kilignon, Fr. Wohi Nin says that “we will go door to door to distribute face masks to allow the population to protect themselves from the pandemic”. In the first phase, 500 face masks will be distributed.

The Ivorian National Security Council (NSC) has taken further measures to curb the infection. Among these, the mandatory use of masks in Greater Abidjan, guaranteeing their free availability, starting from health personnel and defense and security forces. Another important measure is the compulsory confinement of all frail people at home, especially the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases. Finally, the NSC press release also highlights that 13 local sampling centers, 9 of which by the end of April, out of a total of forty-five will be installed across the country for detection, control, and treatment.
