(ZENIT News / Barcelona, October 31, 2025) – On Thursday, October 30, the first element of the cross atop the tower of Jesus Christ of the Sagrada Familia was placed, marking the beginning of the final phase of construction of this central tower of the church.

The piece installed corresponds to the lower arm of the cross, with a height of 7.25 meters and a weight of 24 tons. It arrived last July divided into four panels, which were placed on a work platform above the central nave, 54 meters high, to carry out the assembly, the installation of the glass and interior work, as well as the stone placement.

With a double-twisted geometry, the lower arm has a square base that transforms into an octagon at the top. The exterior is clad in white glazed ceramic and glass, materials that stand out for their luminosity and resistance to atmospheric conditions. Once completed, the cross will have a total height of 17 meters, roughly equivalent to a five-story building, and a width of 13.5 meters.

The installation of the lower arm represents a significant step in the completion of the Jesus Christ Tower, the tallest of the central towers. Coinciding with the centenary of the death of architect Antoni Gaudí, the completion of the Jesus Christ Tower will be a historic milestone for the Sagrada Familia and a tribute to its architect. Commemorative events will be held during this anniversary; the program can be found at sagradafamilia2026.org.
