The Sydney seminary enrolled 14 new seminarians this year, bringing to 41 the total number studying for the priesthood. Its numbers have increased over the past three years.

The trend was echoed at Corpus Christi College, Melbourne, which recruited 10 seminarians this year to bring its total to 41, an increase of six from the previous year.

Officials at both seminaries believed that Cardinal George Pell’s emphasis on increasing the profile of the colleges had influenced the higher numbers.
