Founded in 1981 by the Emmanuel Community, Fidesco’s mission is to fight poverty and despair through development. It recruits, trains and sends volunteers for one- or two-year missions to under-served areas of the world.
Cardinal Robert Sarah will go to Paray-le-Monial on June 13 for the send-off.
The 80 volunteers will join a development project directed by the local Catholic Church, in day-care centers, centers for street children, agricultural schools, etc.
The volunteers’ destinations are decided based on their skills and the needs of Fidesco’s partners in the area: to Haiti, Madagascar, Indonesia, Cameroon and India.
The Mass on July 13 will close the last week of formation given by the team at Fidesco’s headquarters in France.
These 80 volunteers are added to another 22 who were commissioned in February and left in the spring. Some 200 volunteers are currently on mission in 35 countries.
