Bishop Named for Dharmapuri, India

DHARMAPURI, India, JAN. 13, 2012 (Zenit.org).- Auxiliary Bishop Lawrence Pius Dorairaj of Madras and Myalpore, India, has been named the bishop of Dharmapuri.

Bishop Dorairaj, 57, succeeds Bishop Joseph Anthony Irudayaraj, who resigned for reasons of age.

The Diocese of Dharmapuri has a population of almost 3 million, with some 55,000 Catholics. They are served by around 85 priests and more than 300 religious.
