Francesco Belletti Says Ignoring Pro-Marriage Marches a Transgression

“The impression one gets from the choices of the Cannes jury is that the world talked about and awarded in these circumstances is the victim of a search for sensationalism, which doesn’t stop at anything, and that to win “the spectators must be ‘punched’ in the stomach, the head and the heart,” said Francesco Belletti, president of the Forum, in a commentary published fully on the Forum’s Web page.

“The prize for direction went to Mexican Escalante, for the film “Heli” described as “hyper violent,” whose principal merit seems to be, in fact, the communicative code of violence. The Golden Palm was awarded to the story “La vie d’Adele,” that director Kechiche dedicates to love between two women, one of whom is a minor, with an abundance of erotic-sexual particulars.”

“However, that the story of love is between two women, it seems to me to be ultimately the less transgressive aspect: in a certain sense, it seems instead the most conformist and most conservative aspect, the more trivially politically correct choice of narrative and choice of the Cannes jury.”

“The real transgression, in France, doesn’t come from Cannes but from the avenues of Paris, where a peaceful people marched again to defend the idea that comes to the world of the mysterious encounter of love between a man and a woman, and that sexual difference is an irreplaceable quality of the construction of the identity of every person. And, in fact, this has become the voice of the people, which the blindly ideological power of the Hollande government refuses continually to listen to, with obstinacy worthy of a better cause.”
