A nun who left her cloister for the first time in 40 years to meet Pope Benedict XVI during his trip to Madrid died this week at 105.
The nun, Sister Teresita Barajuen, is believed to have been the longest-serving cloistered nun, living the religious life in her convent for 86 years.
Besides her meeting with Benedict XVI during his 2011 visit to Spain for World Youth Day, the only other time she left the cloister was during the Spanish Civil War.
The Pope met the nun personally on Aug. 20, 2011, and congratulated her for her 104th birthday.
