The Pope referred to the crisis facing people in the Pakistani-controlled area of Kashmir, as a result of the Oct. 8 earthquake that killed more than 50,000.
«Also in this case the forms of solidarity have been numerous, but the need seems greater than the aid offered so far,» the Holy Father said today after praying the midday Angelus with the people gathered in St. Peter’s Square.
The Bishop of Rome renewed his «appeal to the international community so that efforts will be multiplied in support of these peoples who have suffered so much.»
More people might die than those who perished in the earthquake itself, due to injuries, hunger and cold, warned the U.N. coordinator-in-chief of humanitarian aid, Rashid Khalikov, last Wednesday.
