Germany Gets a Native Son as Papal Nuncio

VATICAN CITY, NOV. 25, 2003 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II named Archbishop Erwin Josef Ender as papal nuncio in Berlin, the first prelate of that country who will represent the Holy See in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Archbishop Ender, 65, a native of Breslau, was apostolic nuncio in the Czech Republic, after having been nuncio in Lebanon and, subsequently, apostolic administrator in Estonia. The Vatican press office announced his latest appointment today.

He succeeds Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo, who has been named Vatican secretary for relations with states.
