(ZENIT News / Rome, 15.04.2025).- The Holy See, through the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, has made known that the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae has been suppressed.
“At the end of the investigation ordered by the Holy Father Francis on July 5, 2023, in order to check the validity of the accusations of various kinds of responsibilities, attributed to Mr Luis Fernando Figari and to numerous other members of the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae and the Marian Fraternity of Reconciliation, as well as the Associations of the Faithful of the Handmaids of the Plan of God and of the Christian Life Movement,” states the press release signed by the Dicastery’s Prefect, Sister Simona Brambilla.
And it continues: “Recently the respective decrees of suppression have been notified, issued by the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life and confirmed specifically by the Holy Father.”
The press release concludes stating that “Monsignor Jordi Bertomeu-Farnós has also been appointed as Apostolic Commissioner to oversee the acts, procedures and any other type of initiative, useful and in any case functional to implement the dispositions related to the suppression, as well as to address all the consequences arising from the same decision.”
Published the day before, on the official Website of the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae, was the following press release:
We hereby inform that today, April 14th , 2025, the Superior General of the Sodalitium signed the decree of suppression of our Community at the headquarters of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, in the presence of Sister Simona Brambilla, Prefect of the Dicastery. Monsignor Jordi Bertomeu Farnós has also been appointed as Apostolic Commissioner to oversee matters related to the suppression of the Sodalitium. With sorrow and obedience, we accept this decision, specifically approved by Pope Francis, which brings our Society to an end.
First and foremost, we give thanks to God for our vocation, for calling us without any merit of our own to serve the Church. We treasure the fact that, through His loving action, many people from various countries have shared with us a genuine experience of faith, fraternity, and apostolic fervour, which has borne much fruit.
Our thoughts also turn to the victims, to whom we once again express our sincere request for forgiveness for the mistreatment and abuse committed within the Community. We also ask forgiveness from the entire Church and society for the pain caused. We trust that the efforts we made in the process of reparation will bear fruit, and we continue to offer our prayers that the Lord may heal the wounds that have been inflicted.
We would like to express our gratitude to all our sodalit brothers, lay and clerics, who have been part of the Community throughout our history and who generously dedicated years of their lives to the apostolic mission of the Church.
We thank the pastors who welcomed us to serve apostolically in their dioceses, and we are especially grateful to the pontifical delegates, who guided and accompanied us with great dedication, charity, and wisdom throughout our process of renewal. To our families, friends, and the wider spiritual family present in various countries, thank you for your closeness and support.
The Good Lord has mysterious ways by which He can always make all things new. With hope, we entrust ourselves to the prayers of all during this time, so that, always accompanied by the intercession of Holy Mary, this may become for us a privileged time of conversion and renewed listening to the voice of God, always in communion with the Holy Father and our Mother, the Church.
