Caritas Aims to Raise $1 Million for India Relief

Catholic aid institutions worldwide have mobilized to help victims of the India earthquake, the country´s worst in 50 years.

Caritas Internationalis has launched an emergency appeal to help Caritas-India provide aid to quake victims. From its headquarters in Vatican City, it appealed to its network for $1 million to be sent to Caritas-India, for the immediate needs of those affected.

Caritas-India, which is providing relief on the ground, reported that the Friday earthquake caused extensive damage in the city of Ahmedabad, and across the state of Gujarat. Other areas in the state of Gujarat sending Caritas reports of serious damage are Bhavnagar, Surat, Nausari and Kutch.
