Newark Auxiliary Named Bishop of Paterson

PATERSON, New Jersey, JUNE 2, 2004 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II accepted the resignation of Bishop Frank Rodimer, 76, of Paterson, and appointed Newark Auxiliary Bishop Arthur Serratelli, 60, as his successor.

Arthur Serratelli was born in Newark. His degrees include a doctorate in theology from the Gregorian University in 1977. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Newark in December 1968. He was appointed auxiliary bishop in 2000.

The Diocese of Paterson in northern New Jersey has a Catholic population of about 377,000 in a total population of more than a million.
