DUBLIN, DEC. 5, 2012 (Zenit.org).- While the government contemplates introducing new laws allowing the introduction of abortion into the Irish Republic, tens of thousands of pro-life supporters gathered in front of the Irish Parliament in Dublin in support of life from the first moment of conception until natural death. While the current mood in Ireland is that there should be abortion, mercy killings and euthanasia available for whoever wants it, pro-life supporters state that everyone has a «right to be born» and that God is the author of Life and only he can decide when life should end.

While the protest was prayerful and respectful, speakers reminded the crowds that some un-named «expert groups» have recommended to the Irish Government that the laws be changed to allow abortion in Ireland in certain cases. Ireland is a Catholic country and sees abortion, as practiced by most countries of the world, as an abomination and morally wrong. While populations in many countries are no longer growing due to abortion, contraception and the culture of death in general, Catholic Ireland’s population is growing by 10% per annum. Recently, however, an Indian woman died at the Galway City University College Hospital due to a viral infection while pregnant. This story was first aired by Kitty Holland of the Irish Times, Ireland’s leading secular newspaper and led many pro-abortion groups to hijack the secular media demanding greater access to abortion as a «right» for woman who wish to terminate their child’s life. Kitty Holland later stated that her story was fabricated and unfounded. Ireland’s Catholic Church is under severe pressure by pro-abortion groups partly funded by American philanthropist Chuck Feeney, an American billionaire whose funding has undermined Catholic teaching and usurped democracy in Ireland.

The sight of some of the Catholic bishops in Ireland was of great comfort to the pro-life movements who organized the protest urging the Irish Government to protect the rights of the unborn.

Ironically, the Irish Government who under its Prime Minister Enda Kenny, himself a Catholic recently attacked the Pope and the Vatican over what he saw as a failure to protect children, while in the same breath his government was to introduce abortion despite election promises- and it must be said that abortion is the ultimate form of child abuse.
