ROME, MAY 13, 2010 (Zenit.org).- In the final days of the exposition of the Shroud of Turin, members of the Italian branch of the Charismatic Renewal have gathered in the city for two special meetings.

The members of the ecclesial movement in Turin are focused on promoting the spirit of Pentecost and a gathering of Eucharistic adoration.

“The Shroud is the practical answer to man’s infinite desire to seek the face of God, to enter into the mystery, to give one’s existence a supernatural dimension,” said Salvatore Martinez, president of the Italian Charismatic Renewal, in a communiqué. “The endless queues of pilgrims who ‘want to see’ the Shroud are not different from the people in Jesus’ time who ‘wanted to see him,’ hear him and follow him.

“It is necessary to work so that the experience of this encounter is facilitated and today, like 2,000 years ago, men are given the possibility to know the originality and novelty of Christian love.”

Meeting with the Holy Spirit

The first meeting took place today at 8:30 p.m. The main theme for reflection was “Caritas in Veritate.”

Then on Saturday, the group will hold Eucharistic adoration at the mother church of the Salesians, where the remains of Sts. John Bosco and Dominic Savio rest. The intentions for the evening of prayer will be the needs of the Church. At 10:30 p.m., the participants will go in procession to pray before the Shroud.

“The [Charismatic Renewal] intends to carry out with conviction this ‘service to truth,'” Martinez concluded, “at a time that sees the Pope and the Church suffering with the sin of some sons who are following an evil way and have mortified the love of Christ.”
